ANTEPAVILION *
A pop-up installation to memorialize a war against art at the Hoxton Docks in London. Designed to fly under the radar of planning authorities by blending with the industrial site, visitors will find an intimate reflection pool to enjoy a space that was meant for their eyes only.
Once the visitor has got their bearings, this work invites them to take part in a ritual to help cleanse the site of its bad spirits (or bureaucrats), using salt from the basin. The visitor may take a handful and toss it across the water, watching the white particles swirl and dissolve into the black pool. This act helps purify the site and pay respect to the art that came before. The participation of each visitor enhances the work’s final form. Looking over the black pool, you can watch the reflections of sunlight creating patterns on the shimmering, black chip board walls in peace and solitude. The project can also be deconstructed in phases. Even if the walls are eventually removed, the shallow pool of stones can be left to dry up. The salt thrown by past visitors will crystalize in the sun as it dries over the rocks, creating a glistening garden before final removal.
