CROSSING OVER

CROSSING OVER *

Where do we go when we die? Above? Below? Maybe we just vanish. This installation visualizes that transition with a series of glowing paths, like spirits behind a veil, as they make their way back and forth across the canal. Visitors who approach this installation will find it takes on different forms from different angles. The three fabric sails transform in the breeze, adding layers of opacity or transparency depending on the viewer's position. Due to the varying angles of the sails, the different lengths and the multiple points of intersection, an observer will find the piece comes alive in different ways each time they visit.

a place of reflection

The points of light have different paces which make them sometimes converge, like two souls finding one another after wandering alone, or part as they pass by. The hope is that, beyond the calming effect the lighting creates, this work will be a place of reflection for someone to contemplate love, loss and even their own mortality.
